This is a FREE event, but this year the at the Wellness Festival we will be raising funds and awareness for Sarcoma Cancers. Why? Because one of our Founding Members, Tom Boardman and his family have been directly affected.

A note from Tom:
Dear Family and Friends,

As I’ve passed my three quarters of a century birthday, (as my friend Mark would say “Yikes”) once again I am going to ride my bike to raise funds for sarcoma cancers (a rare type of cancer found in blood vessels, nerves, bones, muscles, deep skin tissues, tendons, and cartilages) . As many of you know I have done this for the past seven years so this will be year eight which is hard to believe. Since the University of Minnesota has yet to pick up on the biking fundraiser concept for cancer research (it is doing many, many other things), I will do my own thing this year—again.

I will do a solo (though I may have a couple friends, including Dave Gray who has been with me each year, join in just to keep me safe) bike marathon of 26.2 miles over Labor Day weekend. This fundraising effort will be, as in the past, to raise money for cancer research and in particular sarcoma cancer research at Rein In Sarcoma’s partner institutions, The University of Minnesota, Mayo Clinic and Children’s Hospitals and Clinics. Since there is absolutely no overhead associated with me riding my bike, 100% of the proceeds will go to the Rein In Sarcoma Foundation to fund research to find cures.

Tax deductible donations can be made to Rein In Sarcoma either online here, or by check mailed to Rein in Sarcoma at 7401 Central Ave. NE, Fridley MN 55432. Please include a note or mention on the memo line “Tom’s Ride”. Alternatively, you can send donations made out to RIS directly to me at 14835 118th St. N. Stillwater, MN 55082 and I will see the donation gets to the office. I also have both VENMO and ZELLE if you want to use those mechanisms. If you prefer, you can text TOMSRIDE to 44321 for text to give. Please go to the link for clear and comprehensive directions if mine don’t work for you.

Thank you in advance for your consideration and past generosity. I am gifted time to spend with my now 21 year old grandson who was diagnosed with Ewing’s Sarcoma nearly nine years ago and it fills my heart with joy to see what a fine young man he is and that he is beating the odds. But my heart is also heavy knowing there are many more boys and girls and men and women who still are facing an uphill battle in fighting these awful cancers. Their stories are heard every year. This is why I still ride and why your donations, large or small, will MAKE A DIFFERENCE.

Thank you on behalf of the Boardman and Michalski (grandson) families.

Sincerely,

Tom Boardman
